Bulldogs Eliminate Huskies, Advance to GLIAC Semifinals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Quarterfinal (GLIAC) victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies on Tuesday (Nov. 1) at the Bulldog Soccer Field to advance to the GLIAC Semifinals for the fifth consecutive season. Ferris State has double-digit victories in each of their last five full seasons with today's win.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start when freshman Avery Comartin scored just 7:10 into the contest, netting her first collegiate goal on the play. Ferris State senior Katie Nestico earned her fourth assist of the year and first of two on the day on the goal.

At the half, Ferris State held an 8-7 shots advantage and 5-1 corner kick edge in the contest with their 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Ferris State senior Payton Price netted the eventual game-winning goal, chipping in a cross from Comartin (2) for her fifth goal of the year at 48:07 for a 2-0 Bulldog lead.

The Huskies battled back within one when Stephanie Yeager scored on a penalty kick at 72:05 to break the shutout bid, cutting Ferris State's lead to 2-1.

In the closing minutes, Ferris State earned several consecutive corner kicks, eventually netting one for the 3-1 final. Ferris State freshman Bella Vallone lofted her first collegiate goal over the Huskies defense at 82:29, assisted by Nestico (5), to reclaim the two-goal Bulldog advantage.

Ferris State finished with a 10-2 margin in corner kicks and 17-13 advantage in shots on the day, with an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.

In goal for Michigan Tech, Gracie VanLangenvelde made five stops and allowed three goals on the day. Ferris State started sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Kubacki, who made two first-half saves. In relief, Ferris State sophomore Darya Mosallaei made three stops, allowing only the one goal that came on the MTU penalty kick.
