Ferris State Soccer Falls In Tight Contest With First-Place Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team squared off against the Michigan Tech Huskies at home on Sunday (Sept. 24), but fell 2-1 in a hard-fought Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Concference (GLIAC) contest.

The Bulldogs (2-4-2) hosted the GLIAC-leading Huskies (4-1-3) in their fourth league contest of the season. Junior Lauren Kubacki started in goal for FSU.

Michigan Tech started the scoring at 22:30 in the first half. Emilie Clayton took a pass from Cassie Bonifas and gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Bonifas then scored MTU's second goal of the afternoon on a free kick that went over Kubacki's head and into the net. Michigan Tech held its 2-0 lead until late in the game.

Senior Payton Price scored her second goal of the season with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Kortlyn Schwenke took a free kick that Lindsay Cole controlled at the top of the box. Cole found Price, who ripped a shot to the top right corner and pulled the Bulldogs within one goal.

Ferris State pressured Michigan Tech until the game was over, but ultimately could not get the equalizer.

For the game, both teams had three corner kicks. Ferris State attempted 11 shots compared to four for Michigan Tech. Kubacki made one save.

Katherine Welch, Jessie Bandyk, and Brinley Bell each attempted three shots for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day and honored their senior class prior to the contest.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 29, taking on Purdue-Northwest on the road in GLIAC play. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (ET) in Hammond, Ind.
