Henson Wins 150th Career Game As Bulldogs Top SVSU To Close Regular Season

Saginaw, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team ended its regular season on a high note with a 2-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State on the road Thursday (Nov. 2) afternoon.

The Bulldogs (6-8-4) improved to 4-7-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with the win. Their victory was the 150th career win for head coach Greg Henson.

With the regular season concluded for the Dawgs, they will now turn their attention to the GLIAC Tournament beginning Monday, Nov. 6. Official matchups will be released by the league office after regular season action has concluded on Thursday evening.

In Thursday's victory, Lauren Kubacki got the nod at goalkeeper for FSU. She made six saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs got on the board first early in the contest. Jessie Bandyk lofted a pass downfield to Payton Price and the senior sent a nice shot with the left foot over Kennedi Pugh in goal for the Cardinals to give FSU a 1-0 lead at the 3:13 mark. Bandyk recorded her third assist of the year.

Saginaw Valley State did not find the back of the net until the second half. Sarah Frederick got one past Kubacki for the goal at 58:19 to tie the game back up at a goal apiece.

Finally, in the 77th minute, Katherine Welch was fouled in the box. The freshman went lower left side of the goal and scored on the penalty kick to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

Welch's team-high eighth goal of the season moved her into second place in the GLIAC for goals scored and proved to be the game-winning goal for Ferris State in the regular season finale.

Ferris State took four corners, had seven shots on goal and committed 13 fouls. Welch led the Dawgs with two shots on goal. The Cardinals had five corners, eight shots on goal and 10 fouls.

The Bulldogs will wait to see who their opponent will be for the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal round. That match will be Monday, Nov. 6 at a time and location to be announced.
