Ferris State Women's Tennis Knocks Off NCAA Division I Bucknell In Dual Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad knocked off NCAA Division I Bucknell on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon in a non-league showdown at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point, but came back to win the first four completed singles flights to garner the victory. Bucknell had beat fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon before falling to FSU.

"It was an outstanding day for the Bulldogs and a great win," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "After losing the doubles point, we came out in singles and played extremely confident.

"It is not possible to single out one individual before everyone brought it in singles," he added. "I'll give props to our number two doubles team for earning two victories on the day. This was the perfect ending overall to our fall season and gives us lots of excitement as we wrap up the fall."

The Bulldogs got singles wins from Sophie Daavettila at the one spot along with Morgan Waller at two singles, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer at the third flight in addition to Parker Nolan at four singles.

Meanwhile, in doubles play, Nolan and Daavettila teamed up for a 7-5 triumph at two doubles.

The Bulldogs will return to the court with action slated to begin early in the second semester before the start of GLIAC play in March.
