Ferris State Women's Tennis Battles MTU In Setback To Close Out Regular-Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team put up a strong performance on Saturday (April 15) in a 5-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road setback at Michigan Tech in Houghton.

The Bulldogs dropped the regular-season finale at the Gates Tennis Center despite battling to the finish versus the Huskies.

"I was very impressed with the way we played today," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "It was some of the best fight I've seen out of them all year."

Michigan Tech captured the doubles round with wins at the first and third flights. For the Bulldogs, Parker Nolan and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer teamed up for a 6-4 triumph at two doubles.

The Bulldogs also recorded a pair of singles wins as Sophie Daavettila claimed a three-set win over MTU's Dominika Bobik at one singles while Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer claimed a straight-set win at the third spot in the lineup.

Ferris State closed out regular-season action with an 8-11 overall record and a 2-5 league slate.

FSU finished the conference season midst a three-way tie for fifth place overall with both Davenport and Saginaw Valley State in the league standings. Two of the three teams will advance to the conference tournament set for April 21-23 in Midland with the official selection announcement slated to be made by the league office soon.
