Ferris State Cross Country Teams Capture First Place At Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams had a strong showing at the 2021 Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational held on Saturday (Sept. 11) morning at Katke Golf Course.

In the Bulldogs' first competition since 2019, FSU emerged with both the men's and women's individual champions and captured the team title in both events, which also included student-athletes from schools such as Rochester, Jackson CC, Alpena CC and Grace Christian.

The Bulldog women totaled 22 points in placing first with Rochester second (43) and Grace Christian third (71).

On the women's side, FSU's Sydney Kubiak placed first overall with a time of 20:12.68 on the 5K course. Daisy England was the Bulldogs' next finisher in third place overall at 20:46.52.

Overall, the Bulldog women had nine runners finish in the top 11 overall and 10 of the top 13 in the competition.

In the men's race, the Bulldogs' Donis Harris took first place at 27:20.97 on the 8K course. Noah Griffith was the runner-up (27:42.19) for the Bulldogs.

The Ferris State men netted 15 points in winning the event with Jackson CC second (64) followed by Rochester in third (68) and Alpena CC in fourth (96).

The Bulldog men's squad finished with the top five place winners and had eight runners in the top nine along with 10 of the top 12 overall.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday (Sept. 17) at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
