FSU Women Finish 7th, Men 10th In GLIAC Meet

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up action in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 7) at Top Taggart Field.

The Bulldog women concluded the three-day meet on their home track with 23 points while the men's team came in 10th with eight points.

Grand Valley State won the women's championship for the 11th consecutive year with 291 points followed by Ashland in second (146) and Hillsdale in third (136).

Meanwhile, Ashland took the men's crown for the third year in a row with 208.50 points.  GVSU earned runner-up honors on the men's side with 197.50 points and Hillsdale placed third (88).

Friday's third and final day of competition took place under rainy conditions.

In Friday's finals, Bulldog women's freshman Zoey Hohmann took third place in the 400 meters (58.23) and also placed sixth overall in the final round of the 200 meters (26.57).

Freshman Alyssa Osika finished sixth overall in the 800 meters (2:20.60) during Friday's final round of the event.

Senior Emily Cross took part in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and placed sixth (15.30) in the field.  She also was sixth in the high jump (5-1.75) on Friday.

Junior Amy Joostberns came in seventh overall in the discus (124-8).

Freshman Anna Rudd placed eighth overall in the finals of the 5,000 meters (18:01.69).

Freshman Shelby Janutol also competed on Friday in the final round of the 1,500 meters and came in 12th overall (5:06.00).

Sophomore Justin Price captured third place for the Bulldog men in the finals of the 400 meters (48.40) to earn All-GLIAC accolades.

Senior Mike Mangieri wound up seventh for the Bulldogs in the 5,000 meters (15:08.98) and sophomore Tyler Crossman narrowly missed placing in the top eight of the same event as he came in ninth overall (15:17.62) with sophomore Alex Best in 10th place (15:18.02) of 32 finishers in the race.

The Bulldog men also finished ninth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.95).

The top three finishers in each event received all-conference recognition.

This year represented only the fourth time in the last 24 years that FSU played host to the GLIAC Outdoor Championships.
