FSU Opens Outdoor Season At Raleigh Relays

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2010 outdoor campaign by sending selected individuals to the annual Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University this past weekend (March 26-27) in Raleigh, N.C.

The prestigious meet took place at the Paul Derr Track and featured competitors from schools at all levels including NCAA Division I programs such as N.C. State, Ohio State, North Carolina, Seton Hall, George Mason, Duke, Rutgers, Georgetown and more.

Freshman Alyssa Osika came in sixth overall in the second section of the 1,500 meters (4:42.88) in leading the Bulldog women at the non-scoring competition.  Meanwhile, freshman Shelby Janutol took 13th place (4:47.18) in the same section of the event.

FSU freshman Felicia Peacock finished ninth in section three of the 5,000 meters (19:22.98) while freshman Anna Rudd was 18th overall in section two of the 5,000 meters (17:47.89)

The Bulldog women also placed 18th overall in the 4x800-meter relay (9:45.74).

Senior Brian Reynolds led the FSU men with a fourth place performance in the fifth section of the 5,000 meters (16:04.19).

Senior Greg Burns tied for sixth place in the pole vault (15-7) while finishing as the highest non-Division I competitor in the field.

Senior Mike Mangieri wound up seventh in section two of the 1,500 meters (4:02.38) with Ryan Chute taking 19th place in the same race (4:04.73). Mangieri also was seventh in the second section of the 5,000 meters (14:43.51).

Sophomore Tyler Crossman placed 11th in the third section of the 5,000 meters (15:09.70), freshman David Silversmith took 16th overall in section four of the 5,000 meters (16:02.13) and J.J. Vandenburg captured a 22nd-place showing in the hammer throw (157-5).

FSU junior Justin Price came in 35th overall in the 400 meters (49.02).

The Bulldog men also recorded a 22nd-place effort in the 4x800-meter relay (8:15.07).

Ferris State will next take part in the Aquinas Invitational on Saturday, April 3, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
