Tina Muir Named To Academic All-District Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University standout Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) recently was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV College Division Second Team for her efforts as a cross country/track and field student-athlete for the Bulldogs this past year.
The academic all-district teams are chosen by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members and recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
Muir earned All-America honors in two events at the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships held last month (May 26-28) in Turlock, Calif. She came in sixth overall in the 5,000 meters on the final day of the meet with a time of 16:40.48 after placing fifth overall while earning All-America acclaim in the 10,000 meters with a school-record time of 34:20.99in first day action.
Last fall, Muir capped off another steallar cross country season by earning All-America honors for the third-straight year following her performance in the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (Dec. 4) held in Louisville, Ky. Muir claimed All-America accolades with her school-best 11th-place individual performance at the national meet as the Bulldogs ran to a eighth-place team finish while tying for the highest finish in school history.
Muir, who was also last fall's regional champion, had previously placed 12th at nationals each of the last two seasons. Muir's 11th-place national meet finish marked the highest individual finish ever by a Bulldog women's cross country runner in school history. She is one of only two women's cross country All-Americans at FSU and the first three-time honoree.
A three-time cross country All-American, Muir also earned the prestigious GLIAC Commissioner's Award for the fall semester and was a league all-academic team selection in both cross country along with track and field in 2010-11.
