Five Ferris State Track & Field Athletes Claim All-Region Accolades

Big Rapids, Mich. - Five members of the Ferris State University women's outdoor track and field squad have been named to the 2014 United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team for their performances during the outdoor campaign.

The list of FSU's all-region honorees includes senior Zoey Hohmann (400 meters), senior Alyssa Osika (800 meters), junior Breeann Ovokaitys (1500 meters), senior Anna Rudd (5000 meters) and sophomore Briana Raasio (Javelin).

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season, and student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.

The women saw 619 separate competitors accumulate 911 total honors. 

This season, Hohmann emerged as the GLIAC Champion in the 400 meters (56.00) while Osika earned runner-up honors in the 800 meters (2:11.28). Rudd placed third overall int he 5,000 meters (17:08.22) at the conference meet with Ovokaitys finishing seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:36.23). Raasio also placed third in the javelin (128-7) for the Bulldogs at the GLIAC Championships to earn all-conference recognition.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members encompassing 94% of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA as well as a number of state high school coaches associations.

The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.

The Bulldogs have several athletes who have provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 22-24 in Allendale at Grand Valley State University. The list of national meet competitors will be announced late Tuesday evening.
