First Meet In The Books For Ferris State Indoor Track And Field Squads

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2021 campaign with selected student-athletes taking part in the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.

It marked the first competition for the Bulldogs since the end of last year's indoor season and the meet included participants from several schools, including host Grand Valley State, Tiffin, Western Illinois, Hillsdale, Valparaiso, Calvin and Davenport.

FSU's Carissa Schurr placed fourth in section one of the 800 meters (2:23.38) with Hannah Loucks coming in fifth in the 5,000 meters (19:05.62). The Bulldogs' Amelia Topolinski placed sixth in the 5,000 meters (19:59.23) with Callie Delaney taking 10th place in the mile run (5:35.83). Allyson Faulkner was ninth in the 400 meters (1:05.15) and Megan Dopheide was 10th (1:07.00). 

The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay squad of Schurr, Katelyn Hutchinson, Kylie Hutchinson and Claudia Wilkinson placed third overall (4:19.57).

Wilkinson also placed third in the high jump (5-3.75) and Faulkner was 10th in the long jump (13-1.25). 

In the throwing events, FSU's Emma Stephayn placed fourth in the weight throw (52-2.50) and Kennedy Riebschlager finished 10th overall in the shot put (35-3).

On the men's side, Ferris State's Lukas Sawusch came in seventh in the 60 meters (7.46). In the 200 meters, Brett Robertson placed sixth overall (23.16) and Ben Menapace was 10th (23.55). Additionally, Menapace was also seventh in the 400 meters (51.05). Robertson also placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.69).

FSU's Andrew Yaworski placed seventh in the 800 meters (2:04.28) with Logan Reimink eighth (2:04.60) in the same event. The Bulldogs' Donis Harris took sixth place in the 5,000 meters (15:01.58) with Aaron Jarema 10th (16:08.04). 

The Bulldogs finished third in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:33.37) with a quartet of Robertson, Brendan Deneen, Logan Williams and Menapace.

Ferris State is next slated to compete back in Allendale at the GVSU Open on Saturday, Feb. 6.
