Ferris State Basketball Standouts Honored As GLIAC Commissioner's Award Recipients

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two talented Ferris State University student-athletes have been chosen as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Commissioner's Award recipients for the winter sports campaign as announced by the league office.

Senior basketball standouts Adrienne Anderson (Romulus) along with Dorian Aluyi (Chicago, Ill.) were both chosen and selected as 12 honorees by the league's awards committee. The awards are presented after the fall, winter and spring sports seasons to six deserving male and female student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in competition.

Overall, only a total of five schools had a student-athlete chosen among the 12 recipients and FSU was one of only three institutions with multiple honorees along with Wayne State and Grand Valley State.

Since the awards were first presented in 2007, the Bulldogs have now had a total of 73 student-athletes be recognized among the league's best. Aluyi is the first-ever men's basketball athlete to earn the prestigious conference distinction while Anderson becomes the third women's basketball player to be honored, following in the footsteps of past standouts Rachel Folcik and Rachel McInerney.

A three-time All-GLIAC honoree, Anderson led the Bulldogs to their first-ever conference tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in her final campaign along with the GLIAC North Division Championship. The veteran standout, who missed all of the 2020-21 season due to injury, returned to the FSU lineup and ranked among the Bulldogs' statistical leaders in nearly every category, averaging 14 points along with four rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals per game. Anderson posted 24 double-figure scoring games this year and totaled 20 points or more five times while also ranking as one of the country's top defensive performers. The first-team All-GLIAC honoree also garnered GLIAC Defensive Team recognition and earned GLIAC All-Academic Excellence honors for the fourth time in her collegiate career. She was chosen as the MVP of the GLIAC Tournament as the Bulldogs knocked off nationally second-ranked rival Grand Valley State in the final to win the event for the first time ever. Anderson closed her career as one of the school's all-time bests, totaling more than 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in 110 career contests.

Aluyi led the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Regular Season Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in his final campaign while garnering All-GLIAC accolades for the second time in his career. Aluyi started all 31 games for the Bulldogs, who went 22-9 overall, and posted 21 double-figure scoring games this season, helping FSU rank among the nation's leaders at 87 points per contest. The senior standout ranked among the league leaders in several statistical categories, totaling 12.4 points along with 7.8 rebounds per game in addition to shooting nearly 50% from the floor. The three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team honoree helped FSU to a pair of GLIAC Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths in his three years at Ferris State and was a key factor in this year's run after missing nearly all of the 2020-21 campaign due to injury. The team captain was a three-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs and finished the season with 384 points, 241 rebounds, 70 assists and 26 steals.
