Ferris State Comes Up Short On The Road At Northwood In GLIAC Setback

Midland, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team suffered a hard-fought 79-66 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) setback on the road Thursday (Feb. 12) against Northwood at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland.

The Timberwolves jumped out to a 10-point lead in the opening half before Ferris State pulled within 37-34 at halftime. FSU then took the lead early in the second frame before NU made key plays down the stretch to pull out the victory.

FSU shot only 38.7% from the floor and hit on only seven-of-26 (26.9%) three's to go with 11-of-24 (45.8%) free throws in the road loss.

Meanwhile, Northwood took advantage of the home court by shooting 53.7% overall and the Timberwolves also sank six-of-13 (46.2%) three's along with 15-of-22 (68.2%) free throws.

The Bulldogs were led by junior forward Josh Fleming, who tallied 14 points and had a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Drew Cushingberry added 13 points and hit all five of his field goal attempts, including a three-of-three effort from three-point range. FSU also received 11 points from freshman guard Noah King.

Northwood was led by Dylan Langkabel, who finished with a game-high 20 points. Maurice Jones added 17 points, Jermaine Myers netted 13 points and Will Bowles scored 12 points while also grabbing a game-high 12 boards in a double-double showing.

The Bulldogs outrebounded Northwood 39-34 for the game and pulled down 15 offensive boards to six on the offensive glass for NU. That led to a decisive 24-7 margin in second chance production.

FSU also forced 12 turnovers on the Northwood side and held a 15-8 advantage in points off miscues with only 11 turnovers of its own.

Finally, the Bulldogs managed 15 assists, seven steals and three blocks compared to NU's 15 assists, nine steals and a block.

Ferris State fell to 18-6 overall and 14-4 in the GLIAC with the setback while Northwood improved to 13-11 overall and 9-9 in conference play.

Ferris State continues its three-game road swing by visiting Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 14) in Sault Ste. Marie. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET) and the game can be heard live on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

FSU then visits Hillsdale on Feb. 19 before closing the regular-season with back-to-back home games versus Saginaw Valley State on Feb. 21 and rival Grand Valley State on Feb. 26.
