Ferris State Notches 13th-Straight Victory With Decisive Triumph Over Rival GVSU

Allendale, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team led by as many as 34 points in a 98-73 rout over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Monday (Jan. 30) night in Allendale.

Six Bulldogs finished in double-digits with junior guards Peter Firlik and Mory Diane leading the Bulldogs with 14 points apiece. Sophomore center Zach Hankins finished with 13 points and added six rebounds and three blocks in a strong effort.

The Bulldogs took a 52-27 lead into the locker room and cruised to a 25-point victory.

In the first half, Ferris State had juniors Noah King and Firlik in double digits at 10 points apiece. Ferris State shot 55.6 from the floor in the opening half and 58.3 from beyond the arc. Diane also had nine points for Ferris State in the first frame.

Junior guards Quentin Ruff, Diane and King each hit two three-balls apiece while freshman point guard D'angelo Hughes went 1-of-1 from deep.

Ruff led Ferris State in the first half with six rebounds and three assists.

Grand Valley State shot just 24.8 percent in the opening frame and finished at 40 percent for the game, outscoring Ferris State 34-22 in the paint.

FSU's bench came on to support a strong start, outscoring the GVSU reserves 43-29 for the night.

Ferris State shot 44.8 percent for the second half and finished 50 percent from the floor for the game.

The Lakers got 17 points out of Drake Baar, but outside of three others in double figures, no Lakers scored more than seven in the contest.

Ferris State's win is the 13th in a row and FSU moves to 18-3 overall. In GLIAC play, the Bulldogs have a 12-2 record and site alone atop the conference standings.

Both teams finished with 38 rebounds, with the Lakers winning the offensive glass by a 10-5 margin.

The Bulldogs return to Big Rapids to take on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Thursday (Feb. 2) at Wink Arena with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (ET).
