Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior guard Quentin Ruff (Elgin, Ill.) of the Ferris State University men's basketball program has been selected to compete in the 2017 ADDIX Basketball Champions All-Star Game, which takes place on Wednesday (March 29) night in Grand Rapids.
The standout senior guard, who led the Bulldogs to the GLIAC's regular-season and tournament championships this past season, wil compete in the annual West Michigan all-star event against the other top seniors from local institutions at Davenport University. The women's game will tipoff at 6 p.m. (ET) with the men's contest to follow at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
The all-star game annually features the top seniors from schools in the GLIAC along with the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Confernece (WHAC) and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). The Grand Rapids area has long been regarded as one of the country's top areas for small college basketball.
Selections for the all-star game are based on on-court success along with integrity, ethics and character. Tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for kids with college students earning free admission with a valid ID card.
Ruff is one of only two NCAA Division II men's basketball players chosen to compete in the all-star game and will be on the East All-Star Team coached by Hope College's Greg Mitchell. He'll be joined by participants from Grand Valley State, Hope, Calvin, Kalamazoo and Alma on the East squad. The West team will be led by legendary Cornerstone head coach Kim Elders and include players from Davenport, Cornerstone, Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech, Aquinas and Grace Bible.
This past year, Ruff ranked as FSU's second-leading scorer at 13.8 points per contest and ranked among the league leaders with 88 made three-pointers as a senior. He earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors and was the Most Valuable Player in the GLIAC Tournament as the Bulldogs claimed the league's postseason crown for the third consecutive campaign.
As the team's lone senior, Ruff led the Bulldogs to one of the most historic seasons in school history, including an appearance in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals for the second consecutive year. The Bulldogs beat seventh-seeded Truman State (Mo.) 86-78 in the opening round of the national tournament before falling to GLIAC foe Findlay 68-63 in the second round on March 12 at Knights Hall in Louisville, Ky.
In his final season as a Bulldog, Ferris State set a school record this year by winning 28 games, which represents the most wins in nearly 90 seasons of Bulldog Basketball. FSU also won the GLIAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships in the same year for the first time in school history. The league tourney title was FSU's third in a row as the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year.
Ruff was a two-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs following a standout junior college career and leaves FSU as one of the program's top all-time three-point shooters in school history.
