Ferris State Wins Home Opener With Big Performance In Regional Crossover Game

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad notched an 85-58 win over visiting Northwood in night one action at the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover on Friday (Nov. 9) evening inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs won their home opener in the regional crossover event, outscoring the Timberwolves 35-27 in the opening half before putting up 50 second-half points in the triumph.

Ferris State, which is ranked #25 nationally, improved to 2-1 overall this year.

Senior standout Ethan Erickson notched a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs and made three treys in the game. He also had six assists and two steals.

Meanwhile, junior center Nathan Claerbaut had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while adding four blocked shots for FSU.

The Bulldogs also got 12 points from senior Reece Hazelton along with 12 from freshman Jaxson Whitaker. Tyler Hamilton had seven points and the Bulldogs also got seven points, eight rebounds and six assists from senior Jimmy Scholler.

Ferris State shot 51.5% for the evening and went 10-of-21 (47.6%) from three-point range along with five-of-seven (71.4%) at the free throw line. FSU held a 46-26 rebounding margin and came up with 16 offensive boards.

Additionally, FSU had 25 assists to go with eight steals and five blocked shots.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held Northwood to 43.1% shooting and the Timberwolves finished four-of-18 (22.2%) from long range along with only four-of-13 (30.8%) at the free throw stripe.

NU was led by Elijah Watson with 13 points and Brayden Szamrej added 12 points in the setback.

The Bulldogs will close out the regional crossover event by facing Lake Erie on Saturday (Nov. 9) evening starting at 7 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena. The opening game at 5 p.m. (ET) will pit Northwood versus Lake Superior State, which fell to Lake Erie on Friday evening by a 77-70 count in the opener.
