Ferris State Races Past Lewis In Regional Home Win Wednesday Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad used a dominant second half to run past the visiting Lewis Flyers by a 89-66 score on Wednesday (Nov. 13) evening inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The 25th-ranked Bulldogs broke a 38-38 halftime score by outscoring the Flyers 51-28 over the final 20 minutes of play to move to 4-1 on the year. The victory was the fourth-straight for the Bulldogs this year.

A stiff FSU defense limited Lewis to only 35.5% shooting overall and the Bulldogs knocked down 12-of-25 (48.0%) three's in the victory. Lewis managed only to make four-of-20 (20%) from long range, including a 0-of-7 showing in the second half.

Senior guard Ethan Erickson paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 18 points and seven assists while shooting six-of-nine from the floor and four-of-seven from the three-point arc.

Three other FSU players also reached double-digits as senior Deng Reng totaled 11 points with Tyler Hamilton and senior forward Reece Hazelton posting 10 points each. The Bulldogs also got eight points from freshman Jaxson Whitaker along with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds from junior center Nathan Claerbaut.

Ferris State finished shooting 52.2% from the field and the Bulldogs made 13-of-18 (72.2%) free throws. FSU also won the rebounding battle by a 39-33 margin.

FSU's defensive pressure forced 13 Lewis turnovers and the Bulldogs finished with nine blocked shots, including four from Claerbaut, along with six assists in the win.

Lewis was led by Rob Stroud with 17 points. Both Destin Logan and Anthony Sydnor scored 10 points each for the Flyers, who suffered their first loss of the year in dropping to 2-1 overall.

The Bulldogs will head to the St. Louis area to face McKendree in another regional matchup on Saturday (Nov. 16) evening in Lebanon, Ill.
