Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally fourth-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad had its 16-game win streak stopped on Thursday (Jan. 16) evening as host Parkside jumped in front early and held on for a 78-66 triumph over the Bulldogs in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at DeSimone Gymnasium in Wisconsin.
The Rangers led by as many as 23 points in the first half and held a 43-24 lead at the break, but FSU trimmed the margin down to as few as seven points in the final five minutes before UWP came away with the victory.
Thursday night's setback was Ferris State's first since a season-opening setback at then nationally top-five ranked West Texas A&M in early November. With the decision, FSU is now 16-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Parkside turned the ball over only one time in the opening half while FSU finished with 10 first-half turnovers. The Bulldogs finished with 14 turnovers to only seven for the hosts.
Overall, the Bulldogs finished shooting 48.9% for the game and made seven-of-15 (46.7%) three-pointers along with 13-of-17 (76.5%) free throws. UWP finished shooting 55.8% from the floor and hit nine-of-26 (34.6%) three's in addition to 11-of-16 (68.8%) free throws.
Junior guard Tyler Hamilton was the lone Bulldog player to reach double-figure scoring in the game, notching a game-high 21 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the floor. The trio of seniors Deng Reng and Ethan Erickson along with junior Mykel Bingham all finished with nine points each.
Parkside had five players reach double-digits with both Jack Rose and Ethan Ivan pouring in a team-high 16 points as UWP improved to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Ferris State did finish with a slim 27-23 rebounding edge in the game and the Bulldogs came away with eight offensive boards overall.
The Bulldogs will visit Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Jan. 18) to wrap up this week's action with tipoff set for 4 p.m. (ET) in Hammond, Ind.
