Hammond, Ind. - The Ferris State men's basketball squad earned a 93-83 win over Purdue Northwest in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Jan. 18) at John Friend Court in Hammond, Ind.
Ferris State started slow, but built a six-point halftime lead at 45-39 in the game. Junior Nathan Claerbaut had 13 points for FSU in the opening half of play.
FSU extended its lead to nine with 3:40 to play on back-to-back three's from Reece Hazelton & Mykel Bingham. From there, the Bulldogs sank the necessary free throws and pulled out the road triumph.
Ferris State got a team-high 19 points each from Hazelton and Claerbaut in the win.
In addition to Hazelton and Claerbaut, the Bulldogs also got 16 points from junior Tyler Hamilton along with 13 points by Ethan Erickson and 11 from Bingham.
The Bulldogs shot 49.2% overall and went seven-of-21 (33.3%) at the three-point arc. FSU also helped its own cause by knocking down 24-of-26 (92.3%) free throws.
On the other end, Purdue Northwest finished finished by shooting 47.5% from the floor and the Pride hit 13-of-24 (54.2%) three's along with 12-of-15 (80.0%) free throws.
FSU dominated the glass and won the rebounding battle 41-28 for the game, which included a 20-12 edge in second chance scoring on the offensive glass. The Bulldogs also used their size to notch a 42-24 margin in scoring inside the paint.
Ferris State had only eight turnovers overall compared to 11 for the Pride.
The Bulldogs will host Northern Michigan on Thursday (Jan. 23) inside Wink Arena at 7:30 p.m. (ET). FSU then faces Michigan Tech on Saturday (Jan. 25) in Big Rapids starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
