Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad went back and forth with visiting Michigan Tech on Saturday (Jan. 25), but the Huskies came away with a 88-85 overtime win over the eighth-ranked Bulldogs inside Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State had four players reach double-figures and used a late run to force the extra session, however it was not enough as MTU got a game-high 45 points from standout Marcus Tomashek in the victory.

With the setback, the Bulldogs are now 18-3 overall and 8-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings and tied for first at the top of the league with both MTU and Lake Superior State.

The Huskies jumped in front by 11 points with 11:46 to go in the opening half before FSU battled back to take a 39-35 halftime lead. In the second frame, MTU again found itself ahead in the closing minutes, but Ferris State rallied to force overtime.

In the extra session, Michigan Tech jumped in front early with the first couple made baskets and held off the Bulldogs down the stretch for the win.

MTU shot 46.2% from the floor for the day and went 15-of-34 (44.1%) from three-point range in the win while also sinking 13-of-21 (61.9%) free throws.

Meanwhile, Ferris State shot at a 38.1% clip and converted 13-of-31 (41.9%) three's along with 24-of-33 (72.7%) free throws. The Bulldogs also outrebounded Michigan Tech 46-36 although MTU had a 21-9 margin in points off turnovers, forcing 14 FSU miscues with only nine of their own.

The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Ethan Erickson, who finished with 23 points and went 11-of-12 at the free throw stripe. Freshman Jaxson Whitaker had the hot hand early for FSU, garnering 19 points including six three's in the opening half of play. Senior Reece Hazelton notched a double-double performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds while senior Deng Reng totaled 10 points with eight boards.

MTU shot 80% at four-of-five from the floor in overtime while the Bulldogs went only three-of-nine (33.3%) in the extra stanza.

Ferris State will visit Lake Superior State on Thursday, Jan. 30, for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie. FSU then hosts Roosevelt in league play on Monday, Feb. 3.
