Ferris State Hockey Falls to Wisconsin in Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off Semifinal

Milwaukee, Wisc. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered an 8-0 defeat against the University of Wisconsin on Saturday (Dec. 28) in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off semifinal at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

The Bulldogs (6-11-2) competed for the first time in the Kwik Trip tournament, squaring off against reigning champion Wisconsin. The Badgers started strong, scoring seven goals in the first two periods, and the Bulldogs were unable to battle back.

Noah West started between the pipes for Ferris State, facing a season-high 59 shots from the Badgers. He stopped 51 of those shots, becoming the first Bulldog goaltender to save at least 50 shots in a game since Noah Giesbrecht saved 53 in a double overtime game against Michigan Tech March 5, 2022.

UW got goals from four players, all of whom scored twice. Quinn Finley started the scoring at 4:40 in the first, and Ryland Mosley scored with 1:25 remaining in the period to give Wisconsin a 2-0 first period lead.

In the second period, the Badgers got a power play goal from Kyle Kukkonen to give them a 3-0 lead. Mosley and Finley each scored again, and Cody Laskosky scored twice, sending UW into the second intermission up 7-0.

With .8 seconds left in regulation, Kukkonen tallied his second goal and sealed an 8-0 win for Wisconsin.

Mosley, Finley and Laskosky each finished with three points (2-1-3). Kukkonen (2-0-2), Christian Fitzgerald, Zach Schulz, Gavin Morrissey and Owen Lindmark (0-2-2) each had two points. Tommy Scarfone earned the win and shutout with 23 saves.

FSU allowed a season-high 59 shots on goal, and the eight goals allowed tied a season-high mark. Wisconsin won 36 faceoffs, and the Bulldogs won 32. Both teams had one penalty with the Badgers converting their lone power play. FSU had 23 shots on goal.

Individually, West finished the night 51-59 on save tries, setting a new career-best with 51 saves. Travis Shoudy, Gavin Best, Trevor Taulien and Holden Doell each fired three shots on goal.

The Bulldogs will take on Alaska Fairbanks in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off third-place game Sunday (Dec. 29) at 2:30 p.m. (ET). Pregame coverage will begin on Sunny 97.3 FM at 2:00 p.m. (ET) and the game will stream live on B1G+.
