Ferris State Men's Tennis Posts Decisive Win In Battle Between Ranked Teams

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad picked up a big regional win on Saturday (Feb. 27) as the Bulldogs won a battle between nationally-ranked squads with a decisive 8-1 statement victory over Southern Indiana at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The nation's 32nd-ranked Bulldogs topped the 33rd-ranked Screaming Eagles by sweeping the doubles round and capturing five of the six singles flights.

Along with being listed among the country's top teams, both squads are also near the top of the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Rankings with FSU listed second and USI third.

The Bulldogs' three doubles wins included a close 9-7 triumph at the number one flight along with 8-5 and 8-3 wins at two and three doubles, respectively.

In singles competition, Ferris State picked up wins at the top two positions to go with a sweep of the bottom three flights. USI's lone win of the day came at the number three spot via a three-set triumph.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 6-1 overall this season. Southern Indiana dropped to 2-1 overall with its first setback of the season.

Ferris State also stayed unbeaten at home this year by moving to 5-0 overall.

The Bulldogs will travel to Florida for five matches on their annual Spring Break trip starting with a twinbill on March 7 versus Florida Southern and Post in Lakeland, Fla.
