Bulldog Tennis Teams Cap Unbeaten Weekend By Sweeping Purdue Northwest In Road Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads capped off yet another unbeaten weekend of action as the Bulldogs took down Purdue Northwest in convincing Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victories on Saturday (April 2).

The Bulldogs earned a 7-0 triumph in the men's contest and pulled out a 5-2 win on the women's side, capping the weekend with a combined 4-0 record on the heels of a Friday road sweep at Davenport.

Ferris State swept the doubles round in men's action for the first point of the contest and rolled in singles play, winning all six flights to move to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The nation's 26th-ranked Bulldogs also stretched their win streak to six-straight contests.

Meanwhile, Ferris State took the doubles point as well in the women's tilt, taking the second and third flights for the first point of the contest. In singles play, the Bulldogs captured four of the six flights, including three-set triumphs at one, three and four singles.

The Ferris State women's team has now won four matches in a row and the Bulldogs sit at 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC following the weekend sweep.

"I was impressed with the men not having an unfocused day after a huge win yesterday," said head coach Mark Doren. "We played aggressive tennis today and played very good.

"The women's team also showed amazing resilience today," he added. "After doubles, two of our players were struggling with injuries and the rest of the team stepped up. We got great three-set wins from Sophie, Patricia and Sam. It was exciting to see Sam get the clinching point two weeks in a row."

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday, April 10, with the women visiting NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan and the men set to host Wisconsin-Eau Claire in non-league competition the same day at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
