Strong Weekend For Bulldog Men's Tennis At ITA Midwest Regional Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad took part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend (Sept. 28-29) near Grand Rapids.
The Bulldogs were one of only four schools out of the 23 competing institutions to advance four players in the top A singles draw as all four earned a first-round victory, including returner Kevin Kovacs with an opening-round triumph over the #16 seed.
In the B singles draw, newcomer Adrian Catahan won three matches before falling in round four. He also teamed up with Jose Perez to reach the B main doubles draw semifinals set for Monday.
Finally, in the C draw, Milo Leuenberger advanced to the main draw singles final. Pi Wellington also moved on to the C draw consolation semifinals and the duo will also take part in the C draw main doubles final on Monday.
"It was a long two days of action, but it was a fun couple of days," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "As a team, we went into the weekend wanting to prove to the region that although we graduated our top four players, we were still a team that would contend with the best and that's what we did."
