Bulldog Tennis Squads Sweep Tiffin In Regional Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams opened up weekend action with a sweep on Saturday (Feb. 8) as both squads topped Tiffin in regional play at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs beat the Dragons in the first regular-season home matches of the year for both teams with the women notching a 5-2 triumph and the men pulling out a 4-3 win.

In the women's match, the Bulldogs fell behind early as Tiffin took the doubles point with wins at the top two flights in the lineup. FSU's Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso were victorious by a 6-4 score at the third spot in the lineup.

Ferris State responded to capture five of the six singles flights to come away with the win. TU"s lone victory in singles play came at the number one flight. FSU got straight-set wins from Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer (#2), Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer (#4), Reynoso (#5) and Katherine Earnest (#6). In addition, Madi was a three-set winner at three singles.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 overall this year in women's play with the win.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point as the tandem of Alessandro Santangelo and Kacper Pasielak were 6-3 winners at two doubles and the combination of Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan claimed a 7-6 win at three doubles.

In the singles round, FSU's Kevin Kovacs took a straight-set win at one singles and Santangelo emerged with a win at two singles. The Bulldogs also got a victory from Jose Andres Perez Alarcon at the fourth flight, splitting the six singles matches for the win.

Both Ferris State teams will host Findlay to close out the weekend in regional play on Sunday (Feb. 9) with the women's match at 10 a.m. (ET) and the men's contest scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET).
