Ferris State Evens Record In Florida With Victory Over Dallas Baptist
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team evened its spring break record in Florida on Tuesday (March 11) as the Bulldogs posted a 5-2 triumph over Dallas Baptist at the USTA National Campus near Orlando.
Ferris State, which had fell to #21 Florida Southern in the opening match of the trip on Monday, improved to 5-4 overall this year by beating DBU in the neutral site contest.
"Yesterday, I thought we played very well against a top 20 type team in Florida Southern with it being our first match outdoors in almost six months and today we came away with a good win," said FSU head coach Mark Doren.
The Bulldogs swept the doubles round for the initial point with victories at all three doubles positions. The tandem of Eric Kovacs and Kevin Kovacs claimed a 6-3 win at one doubles while Alessandro Santangelo and Kacper Pasielak teamed up for a 7-6 victory at the second flight. Finally, Jose Andres Perez Alarcon paired up with Felipe Iser to pull out a 6-4 triumph at the third spot in the lineup.
In singles play, Dallas Baptist garnered wins at the first round fourth positions, but Ferris State earned the victory by winning at two, three, five and six singles.
The Bulldogs got wins in singles action from Santangelo at two singles and Kovacs at three singles in straight-sets. Iser also won in two frames at five singles while Adrian Catahan earned a win via tiebreaker at the sixth spot.
Ferris State will visit Embry-Riddle on Wednesday (March 12) for a 10 a.m. (ET) non-league tilt.
