FSU Tennis Teams Fall To St. Mary's In Neutral Site Action In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads fell to St. Mary's (Texas) on Friday (March 14) during their annual spring break trip to Florida.

The Bulldog men suffered a 5-2 setback in the neutral site encounter while the women dropped a 6-1 contest.

In the men's match, FSU's Erik Kovacs and Kevin Kovas teamed up for a 6-0 win at the number one doubles flight, but St. Mary's captured the doubles point with wins at the second and third positions. They then proceeded to claim four of the six singles matches for the win.

The Bulldogs got a straight-set win from Erik Kovacs at the third flight in singles play along with a three-set triumph from Jose Andres Perez Alarcon at five singles in the setback.

In the women's match, St. Mary's also took the doubles point by taking the second and third spots in the lineup. FSU's Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer and Kennedy Dumas paired up for a 7-5 win at one doubles.

In singles play, Ferris State's lone win came from Yara Madi at two singles by a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 score.

The match was the final one in Florida for the Bulldog men's team while the women will close out their trip on Saturday (March 15) against Indiana (Pa.) in neutral site action.
