Bulldog Tennis Squads Fall To GVSU In Conference Home Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads dropped a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home contests to West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Friday (March 28) as the Lakers recorded identical 5-2 wins at the Racquet and Fitness Center.

GVSU won the opening match on the men's side, handing FSU its first league setback of the campaign. Ferris State swept the doubles round, but the Lakers answered with five wins in singles play for the triumph.

The Bulldogs got doubles wins from Kevin Kovacs and Erik Kovacs at the top flight in the lineup along with Adrian Catahan and Kacper Pasielak at two doubles. The third tandem of Felipe Iser and Alessandro Santangelo also recorded a 6-4 win.

However, in the singles round, the Bulldogs' lone win came from Santangelo in three-set fashion at the second spot in the lineup.

The Bulldog women also suffered their first league setback of the season in the second match of the day to Grand Valley State. It came despite FSU winning the doubles round with victories by the tandem of Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso at two doubles and the pairing of Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Ayva Johnstone at three doubles.

Madi notched a three-set win in the singles round at the second flight, but the Lakers took the other five singles matches to come away with the win.

Both Ferris State teams will be back in action at home on Saturday (March 29), hosting Davenport in league play. The men's match will begin at 10 a.m. (ET) with the women's match to follow at approximately 2 p.m. (ET).
