Ferris State Softball Opens Postseason Play At GLIAC Tourney On Thursday
Big Rapids, Mich. - The "second" season for the Ferris State University softball team begins this weekend (May 1-4) as the Bulldogs seek to claim their third Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament title in the program's history.
The Bulldogs along with five other teams are scheduled to compete in the 2025 GLIAC Softball Tournament, which will take place for the third year in a row at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill.
Ferris State, which enters the tournament having placed among the top three league squads, is the number three seed and will go up against number six seed Roosevelt this Thursday (May 1) in an opening-round tilt at the double-elimination conference tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (ET).
FSU, under third-year head coach Jake Schumann, wrapped up the regular-season with the program's most regular-season wins, 27, in nine years. The Bulldogs' opponent, Roosevelt, is currently 17-29 overall and posted a 11-17 mark in league action.
Comprising the six-team tourney field are Saginaw Valley State, Grand Valley State, Ferris State, Parkside, Wayne State and Roosevelt in seeding order. SVSU claimed the top overall seed after winning the GLIAC regular-season crown.
The 2025 GLIAC Softball Tournament Championship game is set for this Sunday (May 4) in Rosemont. A 12 p.m. (ET) starting time is scheduled for the title contest. The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at a campus site to be announced.
Ferris State has won two conference tournaments (2000 and 2005) in the program's history to date. The Bulldogs have registered a 20-26 record in GLIAC Tournament play since 2005. This year's berth will represent FSU's fourth consecutive trip to the league tournament.
Tickets for the GLIAC Tournament can be purchased online in advance and are $14 for adults or $8 for student/children for a full single day admission.
