Bulldog Softball Falls To Findlay In NCAA Division II Tournament Contest
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad had its season come to an end on Friday (May 9) as FSU fell to Findlay by a 5-1 score in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament in University Center.
The Oilers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the opening inning and held on for the victory as FSU closed the year with a 28-21 overall record.
Findlay scored four times in the first before FSU tallied its lone run in the top of the third inning to pull within three runs. However, UF answered in the bottom of the fourth with a single run and held FSU off the board the rest of the way.
Both teams compiled six hits overall in the game. Sophomore first baseman Alexis Kozlowski had two hits and drove in a run for the Bulldogs, who also got a two-hit game from outfielder Emma Gillard. Designated player Emily Killion and shortstop Bailey McCalister each added a hit.
In the setback, both Kozlowski and Gillard each had a double for the Bulldogs.
FSU's Ella Covill-Marter earned the start in the circle and allowed four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning. Cecilia Bell came on in relief and tossed five and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Findlay's Emma Jones garnered the win by throwing all seven innings. She allowed a single run on six hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The Bulldogs' 28 wins this year represented the program's most in a decade and FSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 12 years under third-year head coach Jake Schumann.
