FSU Wins Fourth-Straight To Enter Break

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad notched its fourth consecutive victory as the Bulldogs recorded a 54-38 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Monday (Dec. 19) evening at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs led only 24-21 at halftime, but outscored the Wildcats 30-17 over the final 20 minutes of play to grab the win.

Ferris State improved to 6-2 overall this campaign and won for the fourth time in five conference matchups. Northern Michigan fell to 5-6 overall with a 2-3 conference record.

With the win, the Bulldogs also enter the holiday break with sole possession of first place in the GLIAC North Division standings.

Sophomore guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind.) led the Bulldogs with a game-high 13 points, including seven in the first half. She hit one-of-four three's in the game and led the squad with 36 minutes of action.

Junior guard Kylie Muntz (Dayton, Ohio) chipped in with 10 points in 25 minutes of action. Muntz went two-for-five in three-point tries.

The Bulldogs also received nine points and four rebounds from sophomore forward Nikki Arner (Ludington) while freshman forward Christina Branch (Grand Rapids/West Michigan Lutheran) added seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Northern Michigan was led by Hillary Bowling with 11 points, but she was the lone Wildcat player to reach double-digit scoring.

Ferris State owned  a 35-23 rebounding advantage and forced 17 turnovers in the contest. FSU also tallied 16 points in the paint compared to Northern's 14 points in the lane.

FSU held a strong 13-3 advantage in second chance scoring on the strength of 12 offensive boards.

The Bulldogs shot 40.5% from the floor and was 16-of-19 (84.2%) at the free throw line.  FSU sank four-of-16 (25%) three's.

Meanwhile, NMU converted only 32.6% of its field goal tries and was only two-of-19 (10.5%) beyond the three-point stripe. The Wildcats were six-of-nine (66.7%) at the line.

Ferris State returns to action after the Christmas holiday against Indianapolis on Dec. 30. Tipoff at Jim Wink Arena is set for 1 p.m. (EDT).
