Women's Basketball Pulls Out Close League Road Win

Findlay, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's basketball team pulled out a key Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victory on Saturday (Dec. 15) as FSU was a 68-66 winner over Findlay at Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs trailed by one with just over a minute to play, but took a one-point advantage on a jumper from junior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown).  After a missed Oiler shot, FSU grabbed the rebound and senior guard Kylie Muntz (Dayton, Ohio) was fouled and hit one of two free throws with five seconds to go.  The Oilers turned the ball over as time came to a close as the Bulldogs preserved the victory.

Ferris State improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the victory while UF suffered only its second loss of the year in falling to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC.

The victory was Ferris State's third in a row and fourth in the last five contests.  It was also FSU's third against the Oilers in the last two campaigns.

DeShone paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 24 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in playing nearly all 40 minutes.  Muntz added 15 points and five boards with redshirt freshman guard Katie Mavis (St. Joseph) chipping in 11 points.

Ferris State shot 41.7% for the day and made five-of-17 (29.4%) free throws in addition to 13-of-14 (92.9%) free throws.

Findlay was led by Kayla Brown's 14 points.  Both Kendra Elam and Alyssa Grevenkamp added 12 points each for the Oilers.

Ferris State held a three-point lead at the break and led by as many as eight points in the opening half of the contest, which featured seven lead changes and was tied six times.

The Oilers finished shooting only 35.8% for the game, but made 10-of-23 (43.5%) three's and 18-of-26 (69.2%) free throws.

Ferris State posted a 42-33 rebounding advantage and grabbed 15 offensive boards to 12 for the hosts, which helped lead to a 15-12 margin in second chance scoring.

Findlay forced 18 Bulldog turnvoers and held a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.  They also recorded 13 steals to 11 for the Bulldogs.  FSU had four blocked shots to three for the Oilers.  Findlay received 36 points off its bench to 19 for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State continues a two-game road swing as the Bulldogs visit Hillsdale on Monday, Dec. 17, for a 8 p.m. (ET) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tilt at Jesse Philips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich.  The contest is the FSU's final contest prior to the holiday break.
