Ferris State Drops Tightly-Contested Women's Basketball Game On Road

Big Rapids, Mich. - A late push gave Saginaw Valley State a close 77-72 victory over the Ferris State University women's basketball squad on Saturday (Dec. 9) evening at O'Neill Arena in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs led throughout the first half and held a four-point lead going into the final quarter before SVSU outscored FSU 20-11 over the final 10 minutes of action.

The Cardinals were led by Abby Duffy, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Laurel Jacqmain added 13 points and 10 rebounds as Saginaw Valley State won its second-straight game.

Ferris State was paced by freshman Adrienne Anderson, who tallied a team-best 17 points, including 15 in the first half. FSU alos got 15 points from senior center Rachel McInerney along with 13 points by senior guard Leah Humes and 10 from junior guard Alexis Bush.

The Bulldogs shot 39.7% overall and went two-of-nine (22.2%) from three-point range along with 20-of-26 (76.9%) at the free throw line.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals shot at a 45.9% clip, including 54% in the fourth quarter, and went four-of-13 (30.8%) from long range along with 17-of-27 (63%) at the line.

The Cardinals also outrebounded FSU 40-36 for the game and came up with 13 steals in the triumph to go with 14 assists and three blocks. FSU had five steals, four blocks and 15 assists.

Overall, the Cardinals turned the ball over 17 times compared to FSU's 16 miscues in the game.

The Bulldogs got a team-high nine rebounds from sophomore forward Lilly George while freshman Shaniya Huggins dished out five assists and McInerney had four.

Ferris State will visit Lake Superior State next Saturday (Dec. 16) for a 1 p.m. (ET) league game in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
