Ferris State Posts Double-Digit Road Victory At Lake Superior State In GLIAC Women's Action

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad got back on track in a big way as the Bulldogs topped Lake Superior State 78-67 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Dec. 16) afternoon at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs opened up a 25-15 first quarter lead and held off any chances of a LSSU comeback with a strong third quarter en route to the victory.

With the win, FSU improved to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC while the Lakers fell to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

Ferris State received 17 points and six rebounds from senior center Rachel McInerney along with 16 points by senior guard Leah Humes and 14 points from sophomore wing Riley Blair. Junior guard Alexis Bush also added nine points with Renee Sturm chipping in eight points.

The Bulldogs shot 45% overall and went 15-of-20 (75%) at the line in addition to three-of-14 (21.4%) beyond the three-point arc.

Meanwhile, Lake Superior State was paced by Tamara Novic, who had a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort. Courtney Jacobsen added 11 points and Natalie Peterson totaled 10 points in the setback.

LSSU finished shooting 49% overall and went six-of-21 (28.6%) from long range, but had only five attempts (5-5) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs also forced 17 turnovers and outrebounded LSSU 38-32 for the day with 20 offensive boards on the FSU end.

Ferris State will return to action on Monday (Dec. 18) evening as the Bulldogs square off against NCAA Division I Bowling Green in a 7 p.m. (ET) non-league tilt at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. The contest will be FSU's final one prior to the holiday break.
