Third Quarter Run Lifts Northwood Past Ferris State In GLIAC Women's Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - A big third quarter run proved to be the difference as the Ferris State University women's basketball squad dropped a hard-fought game against the Northwood Timberwolves on Thursday (Feb. 1) night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at FSU's Jim Wink Arena by a score of 77-69.

The Bulldogs led the game going into halftime 37-34 and held a lead as big as 11 points in the opening half before Northwood managed to use a key late run in the third to seize control.

The Timberwolves outscored FSU 22-9 in the third period to push their lead to as many as 16 points with 8:31 remaining. However, FSU rallied late and cut the game back to two possessions, but NU connected on 20-of-26 (76.9%) free throws to preserve the win.

Senior forward Rachel McInerney compiled 22 points for the game as well as 10 rebounds on the FSU side. Redshirt sophomore guard Riley Blair also poured in 17 points while freshman guard Adrienne Anderson had 10 points off the bench in the setback.

As a team, Ferris State made 28-of-67 (41.8%) field goals and went four-of-17 (23.5%) from three along with nine-of-17 (52.9%) free throws.

The Timberwolves made 40.7% of their field goals and shot 50% from three-point range while knocking down 13-of-26 tries beyond the arc.

NU slightly outrebounded FSU 39-37 for the night although Ferris State grabbed 11 offensive boards and outscored the Timberwolves 14-4 on the offensive glass. FSU also outscored NU 34-16 inside the paint.

Along with McInerney, Blair and Anderson, the Bulldogs also got eight points and six rebounds from sophomore Lilly George. Junior guard Alexis Bush dished out eight assists while senior guard Leah Humes had seven assists in the loss.

The Bulldogs dropped to 11-10 overall and 5-8 in the GLIAC while Northwood improved to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play.

Senior Lindsay Orwat paced NU with a game-high 28 points and made five three's with Maddy Seeley and Adrianna Stolicker each scoring 11 points apiece.

Ferris State will wrap up its three-game homestand by hosting Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 3) inside Wink Arena with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET). The Bulldogs will celebrate National Girls and Women In Sports Day as part of the afternoon GLIAC tilt.
