#7 Ferris State Pulls Out Hard-Fought Road Win At SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's seventh-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs withstood a major road challenge on Saturday (Jan. 27) and pulled out a hard-fought 59-57 triumph over Saginaw Valley State in wome's basketball action at O'Neill Arena in University Center.

The Bulldogs were led by junior guard Kadyn Blanchard, who had a team-high 21 points and notched her 1,000th career point in the FSU victory. Junior Kenzie Bowers added 11 points.

Ferris State improved to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC with the win. The victory was the sixth-straight for the Bulldogs, who also held onto a share of first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings.

The Cardinals led most of the first half, building an early 12-point lead before taking a three-point halftime advantage. The Bulldogs, though, fought back and eventually outscored the Cardinals 18-14 in the final period.

Ferris Sate shot 37.9% for the game and made only two-of-18 (11.1%) three's to go along with 13-of-16 (81.3%) free throws. Meanwhile, Saginaw Valley State converted 46.2% of its field goals and finished one-of-12 (8.3%) from long range in addition to eight-of-10 (80%) at the stripe.

The Cardinals were led by Aleshia Jones with a game-high 23 points. Both Victoria Stafford and Tyler Scheid added 10 points each.

FSU was slightly out rebounded 34-31, but SVSU netted 19 turnovers in the game, which led to a 19-12 margin in points scored off turnovers for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will return home to host Northern Michigan on Thursday (Feb. 1) at 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena. Ferris State then hosts Michigan Tech on Saturday (Feb. 3) beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
