Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad bounced back in a big way with a decisive 82-55 non-league home win over Illinois-Springfield on Friday (Dec. 20) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs, who fell to Hillsdale on Wednesday night in a road encounter, came back home and put up 25 points in the opening quarter while building a 13-point lead following the opening 10 minutes of play. From there, the Bulldogs cruised to the win, which included closing the game with a 23-14 edge in the final period.
Senior guard Kadyn Blanchard led the FSU attack with 16 points while junior guard Mia Riley added 14 points and Emma Schierbeek tallied 11 points off the bench.
Ferris State finished shooting at a 47.8% clip and went seven-of-30 (23.3%) from long range along with 11-of-12 (91.7%) at the free throw line.
On the flip side, UIS shot 44.2% overall and finished six-of-23 (26.1%) from the three-point line and only three-of-six (50%) at the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs also dominated the glass with a 42-24 rebounding margin, which included eight rebounds from Blanchard.
Ferris State, which is now 8-3 overall this year, will return to action on Jan. 2 at home versus Saginaw Valley State with tipoff for the GLIAC encounter set for 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
