Women's Soccer Edges Past Findlay 2-1 To End Streak

The Ferris State University women's soccer team scored two first-half goals to hold off the Findlay Oilers this Sunday (Oct. 18) afternoon in a 2-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) decision at UF's DeHaven Field in Findlay, Ohio.

FSU's win ended an eight-match non-winning streak as the Bulldogs are now 2-11-2 overall and 2-8-1 in the conference. 

The Bulldogs scored early in the contest at the 2:36 mark as freshman midfielder Hillary Procunier (Davison/Flint Kearsley) registered her first collegiate goal with an assist going to sophomore forward Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa).

Ferris State would strike again in the 12th minute when Bri Borgman netted her team-high ninth goal of the season for what proved to be the game-winning score.  Junior defender Kristen March (Canton/Plymouth Salem) notched her second assist of the year on the Borgman tally.  

Down 2-0 after the opening 13 minutes of the match, Findlay was able to get on the scoreboard thanks to an unassisted Sara Jones' goal with 12:16 remaining in the first half.

Ferris State senior goalkeeper Kari Alsager (Mount Pleasant) was able to keep the Oilers from tying the contest and would conclude the match with five saves for the day.  UF goalkeeper Alicia Tutino took the loss as she posted three stops.

Both teams finished with nine shots apiece and Findlay held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs will now get set to play their final three regular-season conference matches at home, beginning with this Friday's (Oct. 23) encounter against Saginaw Valley State.  A 4 p.m. (EDT) start time is slated for the contest at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
