Ferris State Women's Soccer Shutouts Michigan Tech, 2-0

Junior forward Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa) scored twice in the first half to extend the Ferris State University women's soccer team to a four match unbeaten streak as the Bulldogs defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies 2-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match this Friday (Oct. 15^th) at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

The win brings Ferris State to a 7-5-2 overall record and a 7-3-1 mark in GLIAC North Division. With the loss, the Huskies drop to 7-6-0 overall and 5-6-0 in conference match-ups.

Borgman scored in the first half with 7:24 on the clock from a pass by senior midfielder Megan Stec (Novi). Borgman collected the ball in the 18-yard marker and proceeded to dribble the ball past a MTU defender on the left side and then tapped one in past Huskies' goalkeeper Mary Spoehr to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

Borgman would score again just over twenty minutes into the first half on an unassisted goal. She dribbled up the left side of the field from 20 yards out and with a strong shot was able to get a shot past the MTU goalkeeper's left side and into the Huskies' goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead . The two markers by Borgman increased her season goal total to a team-high nine tallies. Borgman also remained strong on the offense, having the game high six shots.

The match was physical as the teams combined to be whistled for five yellow cards with four being assessed to Ferris State.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Aubil (Wayland/Thornapple-Kellogg) tied Borgman with two shots on goal a piece. The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 16-9 with 12 of those shots coming in the second half. Ferris State also had the corner shot advantage with four in the second half while the Michigan Tech had two in the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel McCullum (Grand Blanc) stopped all five shots on goal faced while Spoehr made seven saves. With the win, McCullum's record improves to 7-5-2 this season with six of her wins being shutouts.

The Bulldogs continue GLIAC play this Sunday (Oct. 17^th) against the Northern Michigan Wildcats in what will represent their final regular-season home appearance of the 2010 campaign. Opening kick is set for 12 p.m. (EDT) at FSU's Top Taggart Field. Prior to the home finale, five senior student-athletes on the 2010 Bulldog squad will be honored in a special ceremony.
