Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener 1-0

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team gave up only a single goal, but suffered a 1-0 loss to Indianapolis in non-league play as the Bulldogs officially opened the 2011 campaign on the road Friday (Sept. 2) night in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Greyhounds scored the night's lone marker at the 58:18 mark as Kaitlyn Braunig headed in a cross pass from Shelby Spinelli off of the left post.

Overall, Indianapolis outshot the Bulldogs by a 12-5 count and had four corner kick chances compared to only one for FSU.  

Sophomore Rachel McCollum played the entire 90 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and made two saves while allowing the lone goal.

Shae Morris emerged victorious for Indianapolis as she totaled two saves as well in going the distance in net for the hosts.

Both Sam Kay and Bri Borgman tallied two shots apiece in leading Ferris State while Spinelli had a match-high three shot attempts for the Greyhounds.

Ferris State will play again on Sunday (Sept. 4) as the Bulldogs square off against another Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponent in Drury (Mo.) at 12 p.m. (ET) in Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs' home opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 9, when they entertain Saginaw Valley State to open a five-match home stretch at 4 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field.
