Ferris State Women’s Soccer Falls To Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Northwood Timberwolves scored two unanswered second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the Ferris State University women's soccer team this Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

With the loss, the Bulldogs overall record stands at 1-3 and their GLIAC North Division record is even at 1-1 on the year.

Ferris State sophomore forward Courtney Meharg (Clarkson) scored first in the contest at the 38:12 mark of the first half. Her first goal of the season was a header that popped right over the Northwood goalkeeper's reach.

The Bulldogs maintained the 1-0 lead until late in the first half when Northwood's Amanda Watson scored from a pass inside the goal box.

The second half remained deadlocked until the 35:51 mark when Northwood's Tonya Sitney scored an unassisted goal. The Timberwolves furthered their lead late in the second half when Megan Murdoch connected on a pass from Amanda Watson inside 10 feet of the net.

Ferris State shot the ball 14 times, where Northwood had 10 shots on the game. FSU had seven corner kicks to Northwood's one.

Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Rachel McCollum (Grand Blanc) had four saves on the match. Senior forward Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa) led the contest with four shots on goal.

Ferris State will continue home field action this Wednesday (Sept. 14) playing in a non-conference match-up against Madonna. The contest begins at 4 p.m. (EDT) at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids.
