Bulldogs Fall To Madonna In Non-League Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 non-league decision to Madonna on Wednesday (Sept. 14) afternoon at the FSU Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs used the non-conference outing as a way to get a number of younger players some experience as 17 different players saw action. It also enabled several regulars to play limited minutes with a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches coming up at home this weekend.

Madonna struck first in the initial half on a goal from Kaitlyn Krysiak at 31:14 on a cross pass into the box from Diana Brda.

The Crusaders added their second marker at 72:25 on Ashley Parent's unassisted shot to the opposite corner after dribbling past a defender in the box.

Finally, Madonna scored once more at the 86:42 mark on Krysiak's second goal of the afternoon with an assist from Amanda Jenaway.

Three yellow cards were issued in the match, including two to the Madonna side.

Ferris State outshot Madonna 15-11 for the day with senior defender Kasey Ruimveld leading the Bulldogs with three shots in the outing.

The Crusaders, however, had six on goal compared to only four for FSU.

Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Wineke played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and compiled three saves while Chelsea Gregg also went the distance for Madonna and had four saves.  The Crusaders also totaled three corner kick tries compared to only one for Ferris State.

Madonna improved to 2-3 on the year with the win while FSU fell to 1-4 overall.

The Bulldogs will play their fourth consecutive home match on Friday (Sept. 16) as they entertain Northern Michigan in a 4 p.m. (ET) GLIAC matchup at the FSU Soccer Field.  Ferris State will then host Michigan Tech on Sunday (Sept. 18) at 12 p.m. (ET) before beginning a month-long road stretch.
