Ferris State Wraps Up Regular-Season Play With Shutout Road Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team wrapped up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season play with a 2-0 win over Lake Erie on Sunday (Oct. 28) in Painesville, Ohio.

The Bulldogs will take part in the 2012 GLIAC Tournament with quarterfinal-round play beginning on Tuesday (Oct. 30) at four campus sites.  Official pairings will be announced by the league office on Sunday evening.

After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs scored two goals against the Storm to finish the regular-season on a two-match winning streak.

FSU struck first at 47:06 as Riley Wood notched her eighth goal of the year midst a cluster in front of the net.  The unassisted tally gave FSU a 1-0 edge.

Then, only three minutes later at 50:10, FSU's Stephanie Garland added a second goal to make it a 2-0 contest and the score stood.  Garland's goal from 20-yards out was assisted by both Wood and Hunter Dolan.

Freshman Maddie Haustein played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and made a single save as FSU owned a commanding 24-3 margin in total shots.  Ferris State had 12 shots on goal to only a single one for Lake Erie.

The Bulldogs totaled 13 shots in the opening half and 11 more in the second period en route to the victory as they wrapped up league regular-season play with a 8-6-3 overall mark and a 7-4-2 conference record.

In addition to the big advantage in total shots, the Bulldogs also had seven corner kicks to one for the Storm.  FSU totaled 16 fouls and Lake Erie was called for 15 on the day.

This year's trip to the GLIAC Tournament will represent the first time in school history in which the Bulldogs have qualified for the conference tournament three consecutive years.
