
Women's Soccer Visits Findlay For GLIAC Tourney Quarterfinals
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team has officially received its third consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament berth and will hit the road for a quarterfinal-round match on Tuesday (Oct. 30).
The Bulldogs are seeded fifth among the eight qualifying teams and will visit Findlay for a quarterfinal-round contest on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (ET) in Findlay, Ohio.
Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech were named 2012 GLIAC Women's Soccer co-champions as each team finished with 34 points during regular-season play. GVSU earned the number one seed in the tournament based on a head-to-head win over Michigan Tech during the regular season.
Grand Valley State will host eighth-seeded Northwood on Tuesday in a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal match. Second-seeded Michigan Tech will host number seven Tiffin while third-seeded Saginaw Valley State will host number six Ohio Dominican University in the other quarterfinal-round matches.
The winners of Tuesday's quarterfinals will advance to the GLIAC Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 2, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Ferris State enters the tournament with a 8-6-3overall record this season and placed fifth in the league regular-season play with a 7-4-2 conference mark. Meanwhile, Findlay holds a 8-8-1 overall ledger and came in fourth at 7-4-1 in conference action.
Earlier this season (10/14), the Bulldogs suffered a 4-0 setback against the Oilers in Findlay.
Ferris State has compiled a current 1-4 all-time record (.200) in GLIAC Tournament matches. The Bulldogs made their initial conference tourney appearance in 2007 (10/30/07) with a 3-2 quarterfinal-round loss at Saginaw Valley State. FSU then registered a 2-0 home decision over Northern Michigan in the 2008 quarterfinals (11/4/08) before suffering a 3-0 semifinal-round setback at Grand Valley State (11/7/08).
In 2010, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 contest in the quarterfinals against Northern Michigan in Marquette (11/2/10) before a 1-0 loss last season at Ashland (11/1/11) in the quarterfinal-round.
The Bulldogs wrapped up conference regular-season play with identical 2-0 league road wins this past weekend at Notre Dame (OH) and Lake Erie on Friday (Oct. 26) and Sunday (Oct. 28), respectively.
This year's visit represents the Bulldogs' third consecutive conference tournament appearance and it marks the first time in school history the Bulldogs have qualified for the event three years in a row.
