Women's Soccer Falls In Regular-Season Finale But Claims Fifth-Straight GLIAC Tourney Berth

Big Rapids, Mich. - Host Ohio Dominican scored the only goal of the night as the Panthers recorded a 1-0 victory over Ferris State in the Bulldogs' regular-season women's soccer finale on Thursday (Oct. 30) night in Columbus, Ohio.

Despite the loss, Ferris State has officially clinched a berth into the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament as the eight team selections have been determined for postseason play. The final pairings will not be officially determined until after the final day of league regular-season play on Saturday (Nov. 1).

In Thursday's contest, ODU's Broegan Sautter tallied the Panthers' lone goal in the 32nd minute of the opening half on a shot from 30-yards out off an assist from Madison Baldwin and neither team was able to find the back of the net from there on out.

With the setback, the Bulldogs dropped to 6-8-2 overall and closed GLIAC regular-season action with a 5-6-1 mark. Meanwhile, ODU improved to 12-3-1 on the year and ranks tied for first atop the league standings with Grand Valley State as both teams own current 9-1-1 GLIAC records.

The Bulldogs managed only five shots on the night against an Ohio Dominican squad which held a 13-5 edge in total opportunities. ODU recorded five shots on goal compared to three for the Bulldogs.

The Panthers' Laura Clark claimed the victory in net by making three saves in 90 minutes of work while FSU's Savanna Wojtanowski made four saves in also going the distance in net.

Along with the score, the fouls were also virtually even as FSU was called for eight infractions and Ohio Dominican totaled seven. But, ODU received seven corner kick chances compared to only two for the Bulldogs.

Junior Casey Shauman paced FSU with a match-high tying three total shots, including two on goal. Ashley Blake also totaled three shots with two on net for the Panthers.

This year will mark Ferris State's fifth-straight GLIAC Tournament appearance, which is the longest stretch in school history. FSU has reached the league tourney semifinals each of the last two years to date.

Overall, the Bulldogs won three of their final five conference regular-season encounters this season.
