Ferris State's Shauman & Wood Claim All-GLIAC Kudos For 2014 Soccer Season
Big Rapids, Mich. - Two members of the Ferris State University women's soccer program were recently recognized as All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selections for the recently-completed 2014 campaign as announced by the league office.
FSU junior forward Casey Shauman tallied All-GLIAC Second Team laurels after helped lead Ferris State to the program's fifth-straight GLIAC Tournament appearance while senior midfielder Riley Wood claimed All-GLIAC Honorable Mention laurels following her final collegiate campaign.
Shauman had her best season to date as she paced the Bulldogs with nine goals and six assists for 24 total points in 16 outings. She placed tied for seventh in the league in total points along with tied for eighth in goals this season. Overall, she tallied a squad-best 61 total shots and posted a game-winning goal for the Bulldogs in 2014 in addition to a hat trick and two game-tying goals.
Meanwhile, Wood produced five goals and an assist for 11 total points in her senior season. She played in all 18 outings and notched 20 total shots while also recording a game-winning marker. Wood also tallied two game-tying goals while ranking among the squad's overall leaders in total minutes (1,106).
Ferris State closed the year with a 6-10-2 overall record under head coach Andy McCaslin while advancing to the GLIAC Postseason Tournament for the fifth-straight year, which represents the best stretch in program history to date.
The Bulldogs' 2014 slate included a 4-2-1 record on their home field.
Northern Michigan's Paula Hafner and Grand Valley State's Juane Odendaal were selected as the 2014 GLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, by the league's coaches. Ohio Dominican's Ashley Blake collected Freshman of the Year honors while the Panthers' head coach Jonathan Meade was named Coach of the Year and Saginaw Valley's Claire Spleth received the league's Goalkeeper of the Year nod.
