Ferris State Soccer Comes Up Short In Season Opener On The Road

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 setback on the road Friday (Sept. 1) evening against Carson-Newman at McCown Field in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The Bulldogs and the Eagles battled to a scoreless first half before the hosts scored a pair of second half goals to notch the win.

Carson-Newman notched the first goal of the game at 46:24 of the contest when Lauren Wade tallied her first goal of the year off an assist from Magda Mosengo. The shot came from the top left of the box and was tipped near the goal.

Mosengo then added a goal of her own at 82:39 to seal the victory with Alex Brandan picking up the helper.

Overall, the Eagles managed 20 shots and limited FSU to only three scoring opportunities. Carson-Newman had 15 fouls to 12 for the Bulldogs and also had a slim 3-2 edge in corner kick tries.

Bulldog sophomore Grace Kraft played the entire 90 minutes in net for Ferris State and came up with nine saves in her season debut.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Burns earned the win for the Eagles while making two saves in 90 minutes.

Ferris State wraps up its trip to Tennessee with a non-league contest at King on Sunday (Sept. 3) starting at 1 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs then return home to host Minnesota State in the 2017 home opener on Friday, Sept. 8, at the new South Athletic Fields on the FSU campus starting at 4 p.m. (ET).
