Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team topped Saginaw Valley State 1-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (March 26) at the South Athletic Fields.

Ferris State junior goaltender Taryn Meiste made one stop for her second clean sheet in as many outings while fellow junior Grace VerHage scored her third goal in two games for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State had a 12-3 shots attempted advantage in the first half and hit the post and cross bar on separate chances as they swarmed the Cardinal end.

Finally, at 52:10, VerHage took advantage when a shot by senior Abigail Gilmore rebounded low into the box. VerHage charged the right side of the goal and got a toe on the ball that hit an SVSU defender and dropped behind Cardinal goalkeeper Alyssa Watts for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs had a 13-1 advantage in shots attempted in the second half. Ferris State had a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. Watts made nine stops in goal for the Cardinals.

With the win, Ferris State moved to 3-0-0 on the season with three shutout victories. Ferris State's 270 minute shutout streak is the longest to start a season in school history.

For the Bulldogs, Meiste picked up her fifth collegiate shutout, two back of fourth place all time (Carla Gilbertson, 7) in program history.

The Bulldogs return to action against the Ashland Eagles on Sunday (March 28) at the South Athletic Fields at 1 p.m. (ET) in GLIAC play.
