Nagel Breaks Record As Bulldogs Blank Ashland On The Road

Ashland, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 shutout win to blank the Ashland Eagles on the road at Ferguson Field in non-conference action for their second consecutive shutout victory on Friday (Sept. 10) night in Ohio.

Late in the opening half, senior Pia Nagel picked up a feed from senior Maddie Dickens over the top of a scrum and one-touched it past AU keeper Maddie Dolenga, giving FSU a 1-0 lead. Dickens earned her first assist of the year on the play.

Nagel's goal, which stood as the game-winning tally, broke Ferris State's school record for career game-winning goals (11), previously owned by Emily Rogers.

Later, with only 70 seconds to play in the opening half, Ferris State's corner fell into traffic in the box, where senior Abigail Gilmore stepped into it and cracked a shot for the top right corner to put FSU in front by a 2-0 score.

In the second half, Ferris State put the game away when junior Isabella Zamborini added to her sizzling start to the season with her fourth goal of the year (all in the last two games) at 57:15 of the night. Sophomore Jessie Bandyk picked up her first assist of the year on the goal while Dickens picked up her second of the night.

The road win at Ashland is Ferris State's first since Oct. 11, 2015, when Lindsey Scott scored the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph.

Ferris State outshot Ashland 14-8 on the night with a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Ferris State had three corner tries in the game and held Ashland to one.

Bulldog freshman keeper Darya Mosallaei made six saves for her second consecutive shutout victory and moved to 2-1-0 in the process.

The Bulldogs are next headed for Canton, Ohio where they'll face off with the Walsh Cavaliers on Sunday (Sept. 12) at Larry Staudt Field.
