Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally ninth-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer squad opened its five-match homestand by beating visiting Michigan Tech 2-1 on Friday (Oct. 8) afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

FSU;s Grace VerHage tallied a goal and an assist in the triumph as the Bulldogs improved to 8-1-1 overall and remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs started strong as VerHage scored only 3:15 into the contest on a shot assisted by Isabella Zamborini.

The score stood the rest of the first half and early into the second frame when MTU finally got on the board in the 52nd minute of a goal from Hannah Loughlin, which was assisted by Stephanie Yeager.

Ferris State was not to be denied, though, as senior Emily Mergener scored the eventual game-winner on a putback in front of the goal. It was assisted by VerHage, who had the initial shot on the play.

The Bulldogs owned a 10-6 edge overall in total shots for the contest, including a 6-5 margin in shots on goal. Both teams finished with three corner kicks and each team had 10 fouls overall.
